ಬಹುಜನರು ನೆರೆತಿಳಿದು ಪೇಳಿ ಮತ್ತಿದನು ।।ಅ।।

ದೇವರಿಲ್ಲದ ಗುಡಿಯು ಪಾಳು ಬಿದ್ದಂಗಡಿಯು
ಭಾವವಿಲ್ಲದ ಭಕುತಿ ಅದು ಕುಹಕ ಯುಕುತಿ
ಹೇವವಿಲ್ಲದ ಹೆಣ್ಣು ಗಜುಗ ಬೆಳೆದ ಕಣ್ಣು
ಸೇವೆಯರಿಯದ ಧಣಿಯು ಕಲ್ಲಿನಾ ಕಣಿಯು ।।೧।।

ಧರ್ಮವಿಲ್ಲದ ಅರಸು ಮುರಿದ ಕಾಲಿನ ಗೊರಸು
ನಿರ್ಮಲಿಲ್ಲದ ಮನಸು ತಾ ಕೊಳಚೆ ಹೊಲಸು
ಕರ್ಮವಿಲ್ಲದ ಗಂಡು ಕರಿಯ ಒನಕೆಯ ತುಂಡು
ಮರ್ಮವಿಲ್ಲದ ಮಾತು ಒಡಕು ಮಡಕೆಯ ತೂತು ।।೨।।

ಮಕ್ಕಳಿಲ್ಲದ ಸಿರಿಯು ಕೊಳೆತ ತೆಂಗಿನ ತುರಿಯು
ಸೌಖ್ಯವಿಲ್ಲದ ಊಟ ಅದು ಕಾಳಕೂಟ
ಒಕ್ಕಲಿಲ್ಲದ ಊರು ಕೊಳೆತು ನಾರುವ ನೀರು
ಸೊಕ್ಕಿ ನಡೆಯುವ ಭೃತ್ಯ ಅವ ಕ್ರೂರಕೃತ್ಯ ।।೩।।

ಕಂಡು ಕರೆಯದ ನಂಟ ಮೊನೆಯು ಕೆಟ್ಟಿಹ ಕಂಟ
ಉಂಡು ನಗದಿಹ ಮೋರೆ ಅದು ಕಹಿಯ ಸೋರೆ
ದಂಡಿಗಂಜುವ ಬಂಟ ಒಡಕು ಹರವಿಯ ಕಂಠ
ಗಂಡಗಂಜದ ನಾರಿ ಅವಳೆ ಹೆಮ್ಮಾರಿ ।।೪।।

ಬಿಟ್ಟು ನಡೆಯುವ ಗೆಣಿಯು ಹರಕು ತೊಗಲಿನ ಮಿಣಿಯು
ಕೊಟ್ಟು ಕೇಳುವ ದಾತ ಅವ ಹೀನಜಾತ
ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಯೊಳು ಕಾಗಿನೆಲೆಯಾದಿ ಕೇಶವ ನಂಘ್ರ್ಿ
ಮುಟ್ಟಿ ಭಜಿಸದ ನರನು ಅವನೆ ವಾನರನು ।।೫।।

1. Devarillada gudiyu paaLu biddangadiyu

bhaavavillada bhakuthi adhu kuhakayukuthi

hevavillada hennu gajuga beLedha kannu

seveyariyada dhaniyu kallinaa kaNiyu

2. Dharmavillada arasu murida kaalina gorasu

nirmalillada manasu tha koLache holasu

karmavillada gandu kariya onakeya thundu

marmavillada maathu odaku madakeya thoothu

3. Makkalillada siriyu koLetha thengina thuriyu

sowkyavillada oota adhu kaaLa koota

okkalillada ooru koLethu naaruva neeru

sokki nadeyuva bhruthya ava kroora kruthya

4. Kandu kareyada nanta moneyu kettiha kanta

undu nagadiha more adhu kahiya sore

dhandiganjuva banta odaku haraviya kanTa

gandaganjadha naari avaLe hemmaari

5. Bittu nadeyuva geniyu harakku thogalina miniyu

kottu keluva dhaatha ava heena jaata

srushtiyolu kaagineleyadi keshavananghri

mutti bajisadha naranu avane vaanaranu red

Translation:

Say yes, if they say yes. Say no, if they say no.

Know what the majority around you says, and say so.

A temple without God is a shop in ruins. Ill-expressed devotion is nothing but a fraudulent tactic. A shameless maiden is like a cataract on the eye. A master who cannot appreciate the service is like a rock.

A king without virtue is like a broken hoof. An impure mind is nothing but dirt. An idle man is a piece of pestle. Words without an essence, is like an earthen pot with a hole.

Property without inheritors is like a coconut gone bad. A meal without comfort is like poison. An uninhabited city is like contaminated water. An arrogant servant is like a cruel deed.

A relative who doesn’t invite you even on seeing you, is like a broken nib. A man who asks money for the food he provided, is like a bitter gourd. A hero afraid of facing an army, is like a voice that has lost its range. A woman who doesn’t fear her husband is an ogress.

A breached contract is like a torn leather rope. Someone who asks for repayment of the loan is of inferior birth. A man who doesn’t worship Lord Keshava’s feet is nothing but an ape.
