ಅಮ್ಮ ಕೇಳೆ ಯಶೋದಮ್ಮ ಗೋಪಿಯರೆನ್ನ
ಸುಮ್ಮನೆ ದೂರುತಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಬುದ್ಧಿ ಹೇಳೆ ಇವರಿಗೆ ।।ಪ।।

ನಾನೊಲ್ಲೆನೆಂದರು ಗೋಪ ಮಾನಿನಿರೆತ್ತಿಕೊಂಬರು
ಆನೆಯಾಡಬಾರೋ ರಂಗ ಎಂದೆನ್ನನೊಯ್ದು
ತಾನಾಗಿ ಗೋರಸವನು ಕೊಟ್ಟರುಣ್ಣದೆ ಚೆಲ್ಲುವೆ
ನೀನಣ್ಣನ ಕರೆದು ಕೇಳೆ ಗೋವಳೇರ ಠಕ್ಕ ಡೌಲು ।।೧।।

ಸಾಸಿರ ಬಿಸಳಿಗೆ ಬೆಣ್ಣೆ ಕೂಸುಗಳು ಮೆಲ್ಲೋದುಂಟೆ
ಹೇಸಿಕೆ ಬರುತಿದೆ ಅವರ ಮೊಸರು ಕಂಡು
ಮೀಸಲು ಮುರಿದರೆ ಅವರ ಜೆಟ್ಟಿಗ ನನ್ನ ಕಚ್ಚನೆ
ಹಾಸ್ಯದೊಳು ಮಾತನಾಡಿ ಮಾಡುತಿಹರಮ್ಮ ।।೨।।

ತಮ್ಮ ಮಕ್ಕಳುಪಟ್ಟಳೆ ನಮ್ಮ ಮೇಲಿಕ್ಕುತಿಹರು
ತಮ್ಮ ನಲ್ಲರ ಕಾಟವು ನಮ್ಮದೆಂಬರು
ನಿಮ್ಮ ಮಕ್ಕಳ ಗುಣವ ನೀ ಬಲ್ಲೆ ನಂದನರಾಣಿ
ಗುಮ್ಮನಂಜಿಕೆಗೆ ಮನೆಯೊಳಿಹೆನೆ ಪ್ರಸನ್ವೆಂಕಟ ।।೩।।

P: Amma kele yashodamma gopiyarenna

summane doorutidaare buddi heLe ivarige

 

1.  Naanollenendaru gopa maaninirettikombaru

aaneyaada baaro ranga endennanoidu

thaanaagi gorasavanu kottarunnade chelluve

neenannana karedu kele govalera takka doulu

 

2. Saasira bisalige benne koosugalu mellodunte

hesike barutide avara mosaru kandu

meesalu muridare avara jettiga nanna kacchane

haasyadolu maathanaadi maadutiharamma

 

3. Tamma makkalupattale namma melikkutiharu

tamma nallara kaatavu nammadembaru

nimma makkala gunava nee balle nandanaraani

gummananjikege maneyolihene prasanvenkata

 

Translation:

O mother Yashoda, please listen to me! Gopikas are incessantly complaining about me. Please counsel them.

Even after my constant refusal, these Gopikas lift me up in their arms. They pester me to play ‘elephant ride’ with them, and forcefully feed me the milk, which I spill on the ground without drinking. If you need, go ask dad about the elaborate pranks that Gopikas pull on me.

Can children eat a thousand pots of butter? I feel repulsion at the sight of their curd. And, if at all, I break the reserved pots, their husbands won’t spare me. They are just saying this for laughs!

They are blaming me for their kids’ mischiefs. And they are disguising their pranks as mine. You, the queen of Nandagopa, know the virtues of your children. All this while, I, PrasanVenkata, have been sitting inside the house, fearing the hobgoblins.
